Few cars in Ferrari’s history marked such a sea change as the 512 BB. While competitors embraced the promise of a mid-mounted engine, Enzo stuck to a front-engine layout - “the horse comes before the cart” he always believed. But by the late 60s, the writing was on the wall. The successor to the Daytona, the 365 BB, was going to be a mid-engine design.
In addition to the somewhat radical mid-engine layout, the 365 BB was Ferrari’s first road going vehicle with something other than a V-configured engine. But what an engine it was… and how it improved in the 512 BB.
The 512 BB arrived on the scene in 1976. It’s 4942-cc engine with dry-sump lubrication produced 340 hp, and much improved torque. Cosmetically, changes included the standard Ferrari 4-taillight treatment, NACA cooling ducts, a front spoiler and meatier rear tires.
This meticulously maintained example is one of fewer than 1,000 512 BBs built. It’s received a thorough inspection and is in very good to excellent condition. The interior is clean, the paint is just beautiful and all systems work as expected. Its service history is up to date and it’s ready to go this spring.Recent years have seen values increase steadily. Now is the time to find yourself a sports car icon that looks and performs as well today as it did in its own time.
