2011 Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance

Black Horse Garage's staff recently returned from a great trip to the Amelia Island Concours D'elegance. Black Horse clients Frank and Pat Wismer showed their incredible 1921 Brewster Double Enclosed Drive. This Brewster was stored in a barn for 70 years before being acquired by the Wismers and is shown in original condition! The Brewster was driven smoothly and quietly out on to the show field on Sunday and received a great response from the judges and the public. Dressed in period clothing and complete with a Victrola and an antique picnic set, Frank and Pat were awarded The Fashion Group International Award For The Best Presentation of Fashion and the Automobile. Congratulations to Pat and Frank for this wonderful award and a beautiful trophy.

The entire weekend was chock-full of amazing cars and great car people. It was enough to cause sensory overload in even the most seasoned classic car fans. We were surrounded by so many incredible automobiles at both the Gooding Auction on Friday, and the RM Auction on Saturday; it was easy to forget the best was yet to come at Sunday's Concours. Before sunrise on Sunday, we were greeted by the folks at Hagerty Insurance who supplied a welcome cup of hot coffee and fresh doughnuts. The cars rolled in as the sun rose, and we were right up front to witness the best cars in the world arriving on the lawns. Beyond the famous cars, we also spotted Sir Sterling Moss, Bobby Rahal, Brock Yates and a golf cart driven by Dan Gurney with Sam Posey in the passenger seat!

We witnessed record-breaking prices at the auctions and record-breaking cars at the Concours. Our top pick of the weekend was the truly incredible 1935 Duesenberg SJ Speedster "Mormon Meteor" of Harry Yeaggy. Congratulations to its current keepers for an amazing restoration and presentation. It is a stunning automobile.

We highly recommend this event to anyone who has yet to attend. Thanks to Bill Warner and his crew for putting on a great show. We also extend a special thanks to the Wismers for the opportunity to display their fantastic Brewster, and to our clients, friends and colleagues who took the time to say hello over the course of what we feel is the best "car weekend" in the country.
