Master Restorer, Master Mechanic, Fabricator, British Car Specialist, Perfectionist
Paul has found his professional niche - a collector car shop that always allows him to do the job right. A place where he can solve problems as much with logic and common sense as with his highly trained hands.
For more than 35 years, Paul has passionately enjoyed caring for vintage and special interest cars. Extensively trained by master restorers throughout the duration of his long automotive career, the level of craftsmanship he brings to every project he touches is second to none. Equally comfortable whether handling the restoration of an early Ferrari or performing the painstaking restoration of the multi-million dollar 1934 SS1 Special Open Two Seater designed and owned by William Walmsley, business partner of Jaguar founder Sir William Lyons, Paul's award-winning work is born of great passion, skill, intelligence and dedication.
Widely recognized and respected for his mastery of vintage British automobiles, Paul has developed an understanding of Jaguars, Aston-Martins and Austin Healeys that has distinguished him as a true artisan in this rarified field. Well known for his amazing ability to take even the most deteriorated Jaguar E-Type, DB series Aston or big Healey and thoughtfully return these cars from rusted "barn-finds" to concours winning show pieces, Paul's abilities sometime seem to border more on those of a magician than collector car restorer.
A true master in specialized disciplines that include; complex wiring systems, ornate woodworking, engine building and all types of metal fabrication, his amazing skill at being able to create new, period-correct pieces for old collector cars and then seamlessly integrate them is astounding. Today, after being part of the Black Horse Garage team for more than twelve years, Paul's skill, knowledge and experience involving collector cars from every era and country of origin can only be described as exceptional.
Paul is a long-time breeder of sport horses trained for dressage, jumping and other equestrian events and a life-long Connecticut resident.
What’s the most rewarding part of what you do here?
“This is a thinking-mechanic’s dream job. I have the opportunity to work for people who truly appreciate what we do – our customers get it. I spend a great deal of time on parts that will never see the light of day, like wire looms, internal engine components, screws and clips. It’s satisfying because our customers value this level of passion, and at the end of the job, I know I didn’t make any compromises.”
What are some restorations you’re particularly proud of?
“I recently completed an early Morgan. Morgans come with their own set of specific challenges, and I really enjoy figuring our how to solve them. Also, I'm now working on the prototype of the S.S. 1, the first S.S. (Jaguar) automobile ever produced. There is no other place in the world where I'd get the chance to restore that car. It's the only one in existence.”
Do you have a favorite car that’s come through the Garage?
“The Ferrari 275. It’s a beautiful, potent machine.”
